A 54-year-old man has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead at a house in Adlington.

Mark Dyson was remanded in custody at Preston Magistrates’ Court yesterday ahead of a bail hearing, which was due to take place at Preston Crown Court today.

Dyson, of Harrison Road, Adlington, spoke only to confirm his name when he appeared in a secure court dock flanked by security guards yesterday.

Police were called to an address on Harrison Road shortly after 5pm on Tuesday after concerns were raised for a woman’s safety.

Carole Dyson, 53, was found dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination revealed Mrs Dyson died as a result of asphyxiation.

Mark Dyson was arrested and held in police cells for questioning.

Neighbours in the quiet residential street have expressed their shock at the death of Mrs Dyson, who was described as “a lovely woman”.

Neighbour Audra Ashton, who left flowers at the house as a mark of respect, said: “To me, she was a lovely woman, absolutely fantastic.

“She had pride in her house and was always out cleaning the windows and cleaning the door.”
