Police are appealing for witnesses after a man fell from a bridge over the M61 motorway near Chorley.
Around 9.50am on Thursday 22 August, police received a report of a man lying on the northbound carriageway between junctions six and eight.
The man, believed to be in his 50s, is thought to have fallen from the bridge above on Babylon Lane, Heath Charnock. He wasn’t hit by any vehicles.
He has been taken to Royal Preston Hospital by air ambulance where he is said to be in a critical condition.
Both carriageways were completely closed whilst the helicopter landed and took off.
Sergeant Malcolm Bell said: “An investigation is now underway; if anybody saw this man on the bridge prior to him falling then I would urge them to contact police. I would also like to speak with anybody who may have seen this man fall.”
