Man grabbed schoolgirl, six

POLICE in Chorley are hunting a man who ‘grabbed’ a Chorley schoolgirl.

The six year old was playing in the street in Coppull when the offender grabbed the back of her neck.

She had been out with her young brother and a friend at around 6.20pm on Friday.

Chorley CID is now investigating and has issued a description of the man.

A spokesman for Chorley Police said: “We are treating this as an
isolated incident and believe it is more likely to be an assault rather than an attempted abduction.

“The young girl had been playing out in the Arcon Road area of
Coppull and had been with her brother and we believe a friend.

“A neighbour saw the man
approach the children and grab the young girl. The offender used one hand and grabbed the back of her neck.

“The neighbour shouted out and the man ran off.

“The girl was thankfully
uninjured and had no marks on her neck.”

Police described the man as being in his 50s, with long grey hair. He was wearing dark trousers.

It is believed the man had a
distinct walk and leans forward with his arms swinging noticeably.

The spokesman added: “CID are investigating the matter and we have increased patrols in the area.

“We do believe this was an isolated incident and the motive is unclear.

“We’d urge anyone with information to come forward and help us with our inquiries.”
