Man did not pay for meal – twice
A MAN twice went into restaurants with family and friends and failed to pay the bill.
Neil Rodgers, 39, of Edmonton Place, Bispham, admitted one offence of fraud and was found guilty of another offence of fraud after a trial.
He was sentenced to 180 days' imprisonment suspended for two years, ordered to do 300 hours' unpaid work for the community and told to pay a total of 361 compensation plus 250 costs by Blackpool magistrates.
Martine Connah, prosecuting, said on November 22 2008, Rodgers and a group had a meal costing 273 at the Treasure City Chinese restaurant, Victoria Road East.
Rodgers used his credit card to pay, but the card was declined. Other arrangements for him to pay the bill were not honoured.
On March 6 last year Rodgers failed to pay an 88 bill at the New Red Peaches restaurant on Birley Street.
Trevor Colebourne, defending, said Rodgers denied the offence at the Treasure City Chinese. He did not know why his credit card was declined. He gave a male friend 250 to take to the restaurant to pay the bill, but the friend did not do so.
At the second meal, the bill was meant to be split, but some people were not satisfied with their food. They refused to pay and Rodgers could not afford to pay the full bill.
