Maternity services cut in Chorley
Maternity services HAVE been cut at Chorley and South Ribble District Hospital despite claims that the future of the unit was not under threat.
Postnatal care has been withdrawn from the midwifery-led ward in a move that supporters fear could sound the death knell for the Chorley-based facility.
The revelation comes just weeks after a whistleblower contacted the Guardian over fears that the ward could close.
But a spokesman for Lancashire Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust refuted the claims and insisted that the unit was only being examined to assess staffing levels.
However, an expectant Chorley mum contacted us after being told just days before she was due to give birth that postnatal care was being withdrawn.
New mums will now be discharged just four to six hours after giving birth or could face being transferred to the Royal Preston Hospital.
