Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a motorcyclist died following a collision with a car in Chorley yesterday.

The collision took place just after 4pm when two 125cc motorbikes were being ridden along Bolton Road towards Chorley.

The first motorbike overtook two slow moving vehicles near Albany Academy but when the second bike attempted to make the same overtake, the rider lost control of the vehicle and collided with an oncoming Fiat Panda.

The rider, a 23-year-old man from Leigh, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with multiple injuries but died a short time later.

Sergeant Finn Quainton, from Lancashire Constabulary’s road policing unit, said: “An investigation is underway into the circumstances of the collision but I would appeal to any witnesses to the collision to contact Lancashire Police on 101.”

Bolton Road was closed for three-and-a-half hours while an investigation took place.
