A supermarket worker has been suspended following allegations she “smacked” a four-year-old child.

Police were called after the alleged incident at Morrisons, on Brooke Street, Chorley, on Wednesday.

Mum Selina Johnson, from Chorley, posted a message on Morrisons’ Facebook page to complain, saying that her little boy had been “smacked” by a member of staff at the store.

She said the child had “cried his little heart out” and she had called the police, adding: “I will never step foot in one of your stores again.”

The message, which received several replies, has since been removed.

A Morrisons spokesman said: “The member of staff in question has been suspended pending a disciplinary next week.”

Lancashire Constabulary confirmed they had been contacted following the alleged incident.

A police spokesman said: “This was reported but has been settled by community resolution.

“A member of staff has been spoken to and said she had tapped a child in a friendly manner as it was misbehaving but realised afterwards this may have been

misjudged.

“The family of the child are happy with this outcome.”
