Mum on the run in Canada

A BLACKPOOL mum who allegedly abducted her own daughter before going on the run has been spotted in Canada.

Helen Gavaghan is wanted by Interpol, the US State Department and police in the UK after she fled to North America with her six-year-old daughter Pearl.

Now the 33-year-old has been spotted in the city of Toronto where she is believed to be living.

Pearl was taken from the UK in December 2008 by her mum despite having a shared custody agreement with her father, Henry Da Massa.

Police in Greater Manchester and the Toronto Police Service have now launched a fresh appeal in tracing the mother and her daughter.

The family used to live in North Shore, Blackpool, where Pearl attended Claremont Primary School, before moving to Manchester and fleeing the country.

Before she left the UK it was discovered Helen withdrew a large amount of cash from her bank account and documents were forged prior to the Trans-Atlantic flight.

Pearl was due to start secondary school last year.

Both mum and daughter flew to Cancun in Mexico under the new identity of Dana and Belle Flaherty after changing her name by deed poll.

After living in Canada for the last 12 months it is believed Helen now earns a living as a childminder and is involved in a number of homeschooling groups.

Police were due to meet the two, but Helen fled with Pearl before cops could arrive at their home.
