'My son is lucky to be alive' says mum
The mother of an eight-year-old boy whose leg was broken when he was knocked down by a car in Chorley has admitted: "It could have been much worse."
Last week, the Guardian reported how horrified eye-witnesses saw a youngster suffer serious injuries in a collision with a Peugeot on Eaves Lane at 8.30pm on Tuesday, June 16.
The road was closed near to Froom Street Stores for several hours, with shop worker Julie Riley and drinkers from the nearby Derby Arms helping out.
Now the boy's mum, Jolanda Hargreaves, has contacted the Guardian to say it was her son, James, who was seriously injured.
The St Joseph's Primary School pupil, from Park Road, Chorley, is back at home recovering from his injuries.
Jolanda said: "James came home on Friday after staying overnight in Royal Preston Hospital on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night.
"He's got a fractured femur, a fractured collarbone and will need his teeth capped because they are broken, too."
Jolanda, 41, said two girls knocked on her door to tell her what had happened.
"It was on hell of a shock," she said. "James had been with two friends and these girls – I think they were called Amanda and Nina – had been in the car behind the one which hit James.
"The girls asked James' friends where his house was, (they) came and got me and took me to Chorley hospital.
"They just said there had been an accident and my son had been hit by a car.
"I must say thank you to them, I'm very grateful for their help."
However, when Jolanda arrived at accident and emergency, James was nowhere to be seen.
