A shop manager has spoken of her anger after being targeted by three men who tried to steal money from the till.

Sue Evans was working alone at Andy’s Pet Supplies, on The Green, Eccleston, when one man went into the shop at around 1.20pm on Tuesday.

He took her to the far end of the shop and asked questions about dog food, but she quickly became suspicious.

She said: “He was asking me for prices but I could tell he didn’t know what he wanted because he was picking anything up.”

The man’s phone rang and he spoke to someone in a foreign language.

It is thought the man he had spoken to entered the shop shortly afterwards, leaving the door open, and joined Sue and the man.

They surrounded Sue and blocked her view when a third man went into the shop.

Sue, 43, said: “I glanced over my shoulder and there was another man trying to get at the till. Then it clicked in my head.”

Sue started shouting and screaming, telling the men to leave the shop, but they would not go.

She went to the counter to phone the police and eventually managed to make the men leave.

They left empty-handed.

Sue said: “I wasn’t scared at the time. I wasn’t having it. I was shaking and I was angry.

“I didn’t think about what could have happened until afterwards. If I had, I think I would have crumbled. I just ran on adrenaline.

“Luckily they didn’t touch me.”

The shop opened in Eccleston seven months ago.

Owner, Andy Bury, said: “We have been trading in different locations for 10 years and it’s the first real instance of anything like this happening. We view ourselves as quite low risk.

“In the past I have had off-licences and geared myself up with CCTV and half expected it, but not in this shop.”

Officers examined the scene and launched an investigation, but no arrests have yet been made.

The first man was described as being 1.88m tall, of medium build, with short black hair and olive skin, and wearing dark clothing.

The second man was 1.65m tall, of a heavy build, with short black hair and olive skin, and wearing a grey jumper with blue stripes.

The third man was 1.63m tall and had short black hair.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police on 101, quoting log number 0592 on April 1.

Alternatively,call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
