Housing plan: The former Burrows site is subject to a planning application from Eccleston Homes

Plans have been submitted to transform a former grass merchants into housing.

The former Burrows grass machinery site, on Wigan Road, Clayton-le-Woods, is subject to a planning application which would see 14 two storey, four and five bedroom houses built.

The application has been submitted by Eccleston Homes Limited.

Burrows left the site a number of years ago and it has since turned into an “eyesore.”

Should planning be accepted work will start on the site in 2015.

Coun Dave Rogerson said: “The site closed around four to five years ago.

“It went through the hands of one developer and then another but nothing has ever happened.

“I’m glad something is happening to it, since Burrows left it has turned into a bit of an eyesore, so I welcome the action being taken.”

Coun Mick Muncaster added: “I’ve never heard of any objections to the site.

“It’s about time something has happened, at the moment it’s a hole in the ground but the sooner something gets started the better.”

Kevin Marren, managing director of Eccleston Homes, said: “We are very excited about the plans, we have submitted a detailed planning application for 14 houses.

“The development is accessed via a private road off Wigan Road secured by electric gates.”

The application is due to go before councillors sitting on the Development Control Committee.
