Popular Chorley woman loses fight with cancer

A Chorley nurse who came to England from Jamaica as a teenager has lost her brave battle with cancer.

Marcia Veronica Daley-Ward Foster was described as someone who 'never had a bad word to say about anyone'.

Her funeral took place on December 21 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, in Fishergate, Preston, where mourners were told about her remarkable life.

She was born in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1957, and came to England in April 1972, attending Southland High School as well as being a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Chorley.

Marcia continued to work hard and got the qualifications she needed to work as a nurse, which included spells as a night sister and manager ay Wythenshawe Hospital.

A mother of three children - Rodney, Howard and model Yrsa - she was diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2003 and was told that she needed an operation.

Unfortunately complications set in afterwards and more lumps were found, resulting in an exhausting round of treatment.

Mourners were told: "Anyone that knew Marcia would describe her as a person that worked hard to provide for her children, sometimes doing two jobs and more if she could get away with it. Marcia was an incredibly private and loyal person.

"She was a very strong-willed and determined person. If she set her heart on anything there was no way anyone could influence her to change it.

"For instance she began to set herself certain goals: take her mum on holiday; get married; plan a surprise party for her mother's 80th birthday; and celebrate her first anniversary abroad. Marcia was able to achieve these goals.

"Marcia's second goal was achieved in November 2006 when her sister Beverley played Cupid and introduced her to Winston.
