Rare zip wire stolen

Police are investigating the theft of 11 spools of rare galvanised steel zip wire from a woodland adventure site currently under construction at Rivington near Chorley.

The wire, which is valued at around 5,000 and originates from France, is not available in the UK. It was stolen from the Go Ape compound close to Lower Rivington Barn.

Chorley police say the spools, weighing 150kilos each, would need two people to lift them.

Sgt Andy Bramhall said using the cover of darkness a vehicle skirted the barrier which closes off the Lower Barn car park at night driving on the grass verge to get to the compound.

He said: "They used bolt cutters to cut the padlock of the locked entry gate. They have gone into the Go Ape building currently under construction, into the compound and stolen the zip line.

"Each spool contained 250metres of galvanised steel wire. One is coated in green plastic."

The incident happened between 7.20pm on Wednesday, September 24, and 7am on Thursday, September 25.

If anyone has any information about the theft, they should contact Chorley police on 0845 1 253545, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
