Residents go to battle over 133 homes plan

Residents have vowed to fight plans to build more than 100 homes on the site of a former Chorley education centre.

Arley Homes is holding a public meeting to discuss an application to build 133 homes on the former Chorley Conference Centre, off Carr Lane.

However, residents have already hit out at the plans ahead of the meeting, which is being held on July 28 at Eaves Green Community Centre, on Lower Burgh Way, between 2pm and 8pm.

Alison Williams, 38, of Little Carr Lane, said: "It is a massive open space that everyone has the benefit of.

"I think it will be a shame to lose it and I don't want to have tonnes of concrete up to my back fence.

"There have been hundreds of homes built in Chorley recently and this will bring more people to the area which puts pressure on our resources.

"They are not building us any health centres or dentists to cope with the demand.

"I think the developers are just able to do it because government quotas for housing have to be met."

The former conference centre was demolished in February, this year, after being targeted by vandals and thieves. The centre officially closed around four years ago.

Marion Zacal, 60, of Carr Lane, said: "I think it is much safer now that the building has been knocked down but (if they build houses] I am concerned it will bring more traffic to the area and I don't know what effect it will have on local schools."

Chris Kershaw, property director for Arley Homes, said: "The site has existing planning permission for up to 200 properties, our proposal is for 133 family homes. The decision to reduce the density was made in order to incorporate a mixture of large detached and semi detached properties with good size gardens and landscaped areas across the development.

"The plans have been developed following consultation with the local authority planning officers over how best to regenerate the site."
