More than 40 town centre shops and businesses were hit by a power cut caused by an underground cable fault on Monday morning.

Hand-written notices were stuck on front windows and doors by staff, alerting customers that the premises were temporarily closed because of the problem.

The affected area included Fazakerley Street and Cleveland Street at the bottom of the covered market.
