Talented singers can put their vocal cords to the test in a new competition to raise money for Chorley’s food bank.

Living Waters Storehouse, based at Living Waters Church on Bolton Street, is organising a singing contest.

Named The Voice Of Chorley - Search For A Star, it will see singers take part in X Factor-style auditions before a panel of judges.

The competition is being organised to find the best local talent and raise money for the Storehouse, which provides emergency food parcels for people in need.

Carol Halton, food bank co-ordinator, said: “We need to raise some money for the food bank and we thought what better way to do it than by gathering the people of Chorley together to showcase their talents and bring a bit of community spirit to it as well.

“We have so many people giving to the food bank and it’s a community project in Chorley, so we wanted to bring the community together.”

The contest is open to singers aged 16 and over.

Application forms are now being accepted ahead of the auditions, which will be held at Living Waters Church on Saturday, July 5.

Chorley’s X Factor star, Jonjo Kerr, has already agreed to be a judge, alongside Coun Matthew Crow, Pastor John Lacy and a representative from White Bear Studios.

The best acts will be chosen for the grand final, to be held at 7pm on Saturday, September 13.

Cash prizes will be up for grabs for the winners, along with a recording session at White Bear Studios.

Carol said: “We are hoping we will find lots of good talent.

“We hope everyone will come forward and apply.”

Entry to the contest costs £5 and application forms are available by calling Carol on 07889 757045, emailing storehouse@lwchurch.co.uk or by going to www.facebook.com/lwstorehouse.

They will also be handed out between 10.30am and 3pm on Saturday on Market Walk, in Chorley town centre.

Tickets for the grand final, priced £10, are also available by contacting Carol.
