Ticketed for loading van

A builder who is working to save a 100-year-old theatre in Chorley is furious after being given a parking ticket.

David Alker, of Alker and Kay Builders, started work on Chorley's Little Theatre in Dole Lane 11 weeks ago.

The 39-year-old has been working to fix some structural problems, including rotting beams that threatened to bring down the historic landmark.

But the builder is angry after being given a ticket while unloading his van that was parked outside the theatre.

He says he was only away from the vehicle for a few minutes and has vowed to appeal the decision.

Mr Alker said: "We have been parking here since we started the job as we need to load and unload rubbish from the building.

"In the past the wardens have been very courteous by telling us to move on.

"But last week, it was early in the morning and the ticket said it was between 11.45 and 11.56am - which is 11 minutes.

"I think it is ridiculous as most of the wardens know where we are and I don't know why they could not have knocked on the door.

"We are still months from completing the job but are being forced to pull up on a private car park across the road and carry materials across."
