Top Ofsted report for demolished primary school
Staff at a Chorley school got the shock of their lives when they packed up for a multi-million redevelopment – only to be told Ofsted inspectors were coming.
Pupils and staff at Chorley's Duke Street Primary School had been gearing up for major demolition work in advance of the builders come in when the phone call came about Ofsted.
Headteacher Andrew Kidd explained: "We just had to unpack everything and put it back on the walls. We could have just explained what was happening but we are proud of what we do here and we wanted to show them
"We are pleased we did because the inspection went extremely well and we were told a real strength of the school was its vibrant learning environment."
Other highlights from the inspection team were that the pupils enjoy going to school and are polite and well behaved; the pupils participate in a range of sporting activities and are encouraged to adopt a healthy
lifestyle; the lessons are lively and capture the imagination of pupils and that the curriculum is rich and provides many interesting activities to broaden pupils' experiences.
The inspection team also praised the 'caring and strong leadership' of the headteacher, saying he was 'supported by a well-informed governing body and dedicated staff' which created a 'purposeful, industrious and lively learning environment to promote pupils' wellbeing and learning'.
Demolition work has now started before building work begins to create a state-of-the-art school.
