Village set to reap benefits of new plans

MAJOR BOOST: Players at Chorley Rugby Union Club will benefit from new facilities

A village could receive a major boost from a sporting facility’s revamp plans.

Chorley Rugby Union Club, in Chancery Road, Astley Village, will undertake a huge refurbishment which will see new changing rooms, a mini grandstand, a fully licensed bar and a fitness studio installed.

The club has made variations to a planning application submitted.

The new layout at the club shows an improved use of space which increases parking to 144 formally surfaced spaces as well as work on the clubhouse.

Coun Matthew Lynch, ward councillor for Astley and Buckshaw, said many people could benefit from the plans.

He said: “This amount of available parking could be vital in an area which has many parking challenges. I understand parking was offered by the trust previously to help ease staff parking at the hospital and I would encourage this.”

Currently there no dry changing facilities when the local community uses Westway, a field owned by Chorley Council located in Astley Village.

Coun Lynch feels the changing facilities will be vital in helping the village progress and move forward.

He added: “Dry changing rooms, which could be offered to the local community when using the council’s Westway fields, would provide facilities users currently don’t have.

“As well as these there will be a function suite and bar, which will include a balcony.

“This would offer great spectator views for sporting events, the overhang would also have an added benefit of sheltering the spectator seating for 196 people.”
