Woman threatened unborn baby
Chorley Community Housing has taken swift action against a tenant who is alleged to have made nasty threats towards a pregnant neighbour.
The tenant has previously been warned about her aggressive and abusive behaviour towards her neighbours and also towards staff.
Despite this warning, in May 2010, housing staff received complaints from several residents.
They reported that they had seen the woman shouting, swearing and fighting with a male in the area.
When some of the neighbours went out into the street to see what was going on, it's alleged that the woman threatened one who was heavily pregnant, saying: "You're pregnant, get in your house, or I'm gonna kick that baby out of you".
It's believed that the situation only calmed down after the woman's partner intervened.
Chorley Community Housing took immediate action to protect neighbours, obtaining a temporary injunction which banned the tenant from making threats towards her neighbours and ordered her to stay away from residents who gave evidence in the case.
She was given the opportunity to defend these complaints when the case was returned to court.
However, she failed to turn up so the judge granted a further 12-month injunction with a power of arrest attached.
If she breaches the injunction, she could be arrested and sentenced to up to two years in prison.
Anti-Social Behaviour Manager, Debbie Parkinson said, "We had to act quickly to deal with this complaint, and because of the serious nature of the alleged threats we felt that immediate legal action was appropriate. It's not acceptable to threaten people and as responsible landlords we will not tolerate it".
