The familiar festive sounds of sleigh bells and ‘Ho Ho Ho’ will ring out around the streets of Chorley and Leyland over the next eight days.

The Rotary Clubs of Chorley Astley, Leyland and South Ribble will once again make their rounds on Santa’s sleigh to collect donations for various charities.

“A mince pie and hot drink are always welcome (and don’t forget a carrot or two for Rudolph and his friends).”

A Rotary spokesman

A spokesman said: “It’s time for the Rotary Clubs’ Santa street and supermarket collections in Chorley and South Ribble.

“Proceeds from these will be distributed to local children’s charities and the NSPCC.

“Make sure you get to see Santa with his sleigh and reindeer at a venue near you by checking the schedule.

“Hopefully, the weather will be kinder this year so that poor Santa stays dry and warm!

“A mince pie and hot drink are always welcome (and don’t forget a carrot or two for Rudolph and his friends).

“Santa and his helpers look forward to seeing you all very soon.”

In Leyland, the sleigh will be at Asda on December 18 and 19; Morrisons on December 21; and Tesco on December 22 and 23.

The collections will be between 10.30am and 4.30pm every day.

Father Christmas will be on hand for families to take photos of, and the monies collected will be used for charities including Cancer Research, St Catherine’s Hospice and Derian House Children’s Hospice.

The club also continues to collect food and make deliveries to the Leyland food bank at St Mary’s Church, with contributions from Tesco and Asda.

This year’s charity theme is ‘Nobody should want for food’.

Meanwhile, the Chorley Astley Rotary Club Santa will be at Market Walk on December 15 and 18, and at Tesco on December 19 and 20, between 11am and 4pm.

South Ribble’s Rotary Club will also be visiting Chorley; they’ll be at Asda in Clayton Green on December 20 from 11am until 4.30pm, and at Tesco on December 21 and 22 from 11am to 5pm, and December 23 between 10am and 6pm.
