Man dies in road collision

A driver has died after a road collision in Chorley.

The collision involved a car and a motorcycle and occurred around 3.40pm outside Birkacre nursery at the junction of Birkacre Road and Coppull New Road.

The male driver of the car was taken by ambulance to Chorley Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The male rider of the motorcycle was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital where his condition is described as serious.

A police spokesman said: “We were called with a report that a man had been knocked off his motorcycle on Birkacre Road.

“We closed the road while emergency services attended.”

An eyewitness, who was walking down the road but was asked not to approach the scene, said: “There were lots of ambulances and police cars.

“I think there were three ambulances at first, but one drove off, and there were about eight police cars.

“People have been putting messages on Facebook about it.”
