John Fletcher, Miller Metcalfe CEO, is currently undertaking a daunting trek across the Great Wall of China to raise much needed funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The Alzheimer’s Society works to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia.

Many of their 20,000 members have personal experience of dementia, as carers, health professionals or people with dementia themselves, and their experiences help to inform their work.

Before he set off, John said: “It’s an honour to undertake the fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Society.

“I have seen first-hand what extraordinary charities such as this offer and just wanted to help in any way I could.

“ It will be an amazing challenge and a fantastic opportunity to trek across the Great Wall.

“The Miller Metcalfe Community Foundation believes in investing in these worthy causes and we strive to makes positive difference and to help and support the communities in which we work and live.”

John’s gruelling 10-day,
70 kilometre trek following the contours of the beautiful hills and mountains in remote areas north of Beijing started last Wednesday, and should be completed this Saturday, October 19.

Walking alongside the Miller Metcalfe CEO are staff from partner companies including City West, Seddon, First Choice Homes, Stockport Homes and Alternative Futures Group.

Each person taking part in the trek has been targeted to raise a minimum of £2,500.

Miller Metcalfe and City West have done this through a variety of activities, including a White Ball in the summer raising £10,000 and more recently a Sports Personality Dinner Dance with Geoff Thompson MBE, five-times world karate champion attending as guest speaker, raising in excess of £9,000.

The Miller Metcalfe Community Foundation have committed to raise a total of £20,000 this year for various charities and each of the 74 staff members employed at Miller Metcalfe are tasked with raising £250 each as part of their commitment to Community Giving.

To date, they have taken part and hosted many events to raise funds including, MacMillan Coffee Morning, a Hula Car Wash, Jeans for Genes Day, Music Magpie appeal, Clothes Encounter appeal, 10k run and a 5km Pyjama walk.

Up and coming events include a Halloween-themed family night on October 26, a Fashion Show on November 7 and an Mfactor event in February.
