One call does it all...with Champs help

A Chorley couple would have loved to 'TalkTalk' on their phone but chance would have been a fine thing.

That's because Margaret and Robert Baxendale were without a phone connection for 10 weeks because of work carried out by their provider, TalkTalk.

The couple, of Windermere Drive in Adlington, contacted the company several times and ran up a 90 mobile phone bill while the service was down.

Mr Baxendale, 72, said: "They diverted calls to our landline number on to our mobile phone, which was fine but we still had to make other phone calls from our mobile.

"I usually spend about 20 on mobile phone top-ups a year, but this time we spent 90 in 10 weeks.

"TalkTalk gave us 56 as compensation for the land line but they were still charging us for line rental and we had the added expense from the mobile bill.

"We phoned their customer service department from the mobile several times to find out when the landline phone would be working again, but they weren't very helpful.

"The level of service we received was very bad and we feel that the 56 compensation is fine for the land line, but they told us that there was no way they would give us any compensation for the mobile phone bill.

"I'd like to warn other people in a similar situation of the problems they could come across."

The Champ contacted TalkTalk to find out why they were offered just 56 in compensation and why they had not received an apology.

The pair were given 166 compensation for the phone calls on the Champ's intervention.

A spokesman for TalkTalk said: "We have spoken to Mr and Mrs Baxendale and have apologised for the poor service they received. They have agreed to the compensation we have offered them and the matter is now closed."

On hearing the response, Mrs Baxendale said: "We are very grateful for your help because we have had a terrible few weeks dealing with TalkTalk.

"At least now they have recognised that we had to pay a lot of money for our mobile phone."
