Youngsters pulled on protective clothing and sat behind the wheel of a fire engine when Chorley fire station held an open day on Saturday.

Visitors could watch firefighters and the urban search and rescue team in action with live demonstrations, including a rope rescue and chemical drills.

There were tours of a fire engine and people could also have a look around the fire station, which opened last year on West Way in Euxton.

They could try CPR with the community first responder team, scale the Army’s climbing wall, discuss road safety with the Institute of Advanced Motorists and find out more about the work of the blood bike team.
