Par for the course on Jamie's odyssey

Chorley's newest golf club played host to the latest instalment of a Lancashire man's incredible year-long adventure.

Jamie Dodd, a 30-year-old unemployed father-of-three from Darwen who is attempting to try his hand at 365 different jobs in a year, spent two days in the 'Sun' at the weekend.

The first was at the London headquarters of the national newspaper where he worked on the features desk.

The next was spent helping head green keeper Lee Farnhill at sun-drenched Oak Royal Golf and Country Club at Withnell preparing the course for a competition.

"I raked all the bunkers, swished the water off the greens and enjoyed every minute of it although I might have a different opinion in the depths of winter," said Dodd who launched his Project-365 campaign at the start of the month to encourage other jobless people.

"It's about getting out there and kicking life in the teeth until it gives you its lunch money," he said.

Earlier last week he visited the Self Unlimited Care Home at Stanley Grange in Samlesbury.

"I did not know what to expect but was blown away by what I saw. I met some truly wonderful people and I've decided to run the London Marathon for the cause," he revealed.

Back at Oak Royal, Dodd was already feeling apprehensive about spending a day this week with a Darwen roofing contractor.

"I'm terrified of heights," he admitted. "I'd sooner be here!

"I used to play golf at Darwen and helped in the clubhouse from time to time and I'm seriously considering taking up the game again.

"This is a fantastic course which reminded me of some I've played in Portugal."

n THE first hole at one has been scored at Oak Royal Golf and Country club in Withnell two years after it opened - at a par four!

Steve Ion, a 32-year-old member, aced the 289-yard sixth with a three wood.
