It’s not often you find a biker in touch with his feminine side.

But motorbike enthusiast Peter Moorhouse is proving everyone wrong after dying his beard pink.

The grandfather, 51, was inspired to raise money for charity after his mother, Patricia, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012.

And he is now hoping his colourful make-over will help create awareness about the disease.

The father-of-three said: “I was thinking about how I could make a difference and raise some money for charity at the same time, and I just decided to grow my beard and dye it pink.”

Peter, who is company director of Ridenshine in Leyland, took the plunge at Hair on the Square in Buckshaw Village and he has been turning heads ever since.

He said: “The first time my son Christopher saw it he said ‘I hate to say it dad, but it suits you’ and I just laughed.”

Patricia is now attending a hospice in Southport for treatment.

Peter said: “Although the illness is terminal, mum is still active which is excellent news for the family.

“She’s a formidable person and always full of life.

“She is a fighter – that’s one thing she never stops.”

Peter, who is married to Amanda, is frustrated by funding to hospices.

He said: “Governments provide hardly any financial support for hospices, yet they need money and support.

“And that’s why I wanted to do dye my beard.

“Even if it’s only a few hundred pounds, it’s still money that can help people.”

Since colouring his beard, he has had peculiar looks from people but this really doesn’t faze him.

He said: “People have looked at me strangely but I’m really not bothered.

“I know I’m doing it for a good cause and that’s all that matters.

“And I must confess I’m a bit attached to it now.

“I’m a bit of an extrovert so I will do most things, but there’s no way I’ll jump out of a plane.”
