Plans have been approved for a new state of the art building at Runshaw College.

The adult campus on Euxton Lane, is set to go undergo major work which will see a two-storey extension to the current building.

As of yet the college are yet to announce an official start date for the work and how much the project is set to cost.

A time scale has yet to be announced.

However Claire Foreman, Deputy Principal at Runshaw Adult College said: “We have received planning permission and grants monies, and are now at the stage of needing to secure final funding in order for construction to commence.”

Students will have the luxury of new engineering and science departments upon the completition of the work.

Engineering facilities will be located on the ground floor with workshops and classrooms, whilst science labs and classrooms will be on the upper floor.

The new building will also create the chance for a new main entrance.

Ms Foreman added: “Each year with the increasing demand for high calibre engineers, more and more companies are contacting us with opportunities to work with our young talented students.

The new facility will have the potential to provide training and skills across a wide range of areas fora diverse range of students, from Apprentices to Degree students.

Aaron Ashurst, course leader for Engineering, said: “For many years the School of Engineering has been working with local companies to ensure our students develop the skills organisations require.

“Our first collaboration was over five years ago with BAXi in Bamber Bridge who were looking to recruit in the area of new project design.

“It was the range of specific engineering skills that our Level 3 students possess that appealed to the company.

“We have now progressed to develop an innovative ‘undergraduate apprenticeship’ programme which is currently operating with TRM packaging in Burscough.”

Students would be in full-time employment with TRM whilst studying two days a week at Runshaw College.
