A teenager has used her royal status to help terminally ill patients.Isobel Devine has undertaken a range of activities in her year as Tarleton Holy Trinity Rose Queen, including raising money for her chosen charity – St Catherine’s Hospice. The 13-year-old, who attends Bishop Rawstorne C of E Academy in Croston, said: “St Catherine’s has been our local charity ever since my grandma, Ella McGuire who lived in Leyland, attended day therapy at the hospice in 2009.“We were amazed at the care and kindness shown to my grandmother by everyone at the hospice. Whilst she only attended day therapy on a few occasions, it was a very welcome service and offered my grandad a brief respite too. We were glad of being able to offer something back to St Catherine’s in return.” Since Isobel was crowned Rose Queen, she has held two fund-raising events, including refreshments after the village carol service and a family bingo night and hotpot supper.Mulled wine and mince pies were donated by parents and local shops and were sold, following the Tarleton Holy Trinity village carol service in December. Isobel said: “Both events were well attended. Our family bingo night was bursting at the seams. We had a fantastic number of prizes donated for the raffle and the support was tremendous.”Stephen Greenhalgh, chief executive of St Catherine’s Hospice said: “We couldn’t deliver the specialist palliative care that we do without the support of those in our community and it’s particularly pleasing to see young people supporting the hospice. Isobel raised an incredible £1,160 during her year as Rose queen, which will enable us to support more patients and their families.”Tarleton Holy Trinity held their 2016 annual Rose Queen event last month, where Isobel handed over her role to the newly crowned Rose Queen, Miss Emma Biltcliffe.
