Rivington and Adlington Band are one ‘very happy band’ after playing their way in to the National Championships.
The band picked up the champion trophy in the North West Third Section at Blackpool earning their place in the coveted finals to be held later this year.
It is the first-time members of the long established band have won the north west area contest. They beat off competition from 18 bands to claim the top spot.
Secretary Janet Taylor said: “It was amazing - hearing them read out the results was very nerve wracking - they read out the top six and when it got to top three we all thought it wasn’t to be so when they read out our name the whole band went wild.
“Ahead of the competition we were eat, sleeping and breathing the piece so there was quite a celebration in the pub later on!”
The self-funded band are now firmly in planning and fundraising mode ahead of the finals in Cheltenham this September.
Janet added: “It is an expensive hobby - all the members are trying to help raise the money for the uniforms, travel, maintenance of instruments.
“We have a couple of ideas in the planning stages .”
On Saturday May 20 the band will host a ‘Brassed off’ style fundraiser at Adlington Community Centre.
