A rising ‘new-wave’ band who have just been signed are delighted to announce details of their first single.

Super 8 Cynics, whose frontman Ady Hall, 32, lives in Leyland, will release a cover of Ricky Gervais’ forgotten 80s single, ‘Bitter Heart’.

The Duran-Duran inspired four-piece, which also includes Mike Healey, Jack Ellis and Paul Barlow, hope that their version of the track will set the music world alight.

The song, which was released by The Office and Extras star as part of new romantic group Seona Dancing, originally came out in 1983.

It came in at number 79 in the charts, and spelled the end of Gervais’s short-lived bid for pop stardom.

Super 8 Cynics, who recently signed to Manchester record label Longevity Records, believe their modern take on the song has brought out the ‘seriously catchy tune which had been at its heart all along’.

Ady, who has been part of Super 8 Cynics for three years, said: “Bitter Heart is a bit of a forgotten record, probably best known for its connection with Ricky Gervais, who himself seems a bit embarrassed about it now.

“But strip away the shoulder pads and hair spray and at its heart you have a fantastic song worthy of greater recognition.

“We’ve rearranged the song, brought it up to date and made it our own.

“The entire band is proud of Bitter Heart and we believe it’s a chart contender.”

The song is available on pre-release now, and it will be released via all major digital download sites on August 6.

Ady, who formed Super 8 Cynics back in 2009, also confirmed that the group will be showcasing the single at festivals throughout summer, including Lakefest, Mawdesley , on June 9, Cadence Festival, Tyldsley, on June 16, and Leyland Live on July 8.
