A storm has erupted in Chorley over plans for THREE huge wind turbines – with a further flurry of applications on the way.

From ground to tip the structures will each will be 19.98m – just 2mm short of iconic landmark ‘The Angel of the North’, which stands at 20m.

A plan has been submitted for two structures at Twiggs Lane in Heapey and another one on Ingrave Farm in Eccleston. Each are described as 15m, which is the measurement of the main structure.

The applications come months after an application for a 79m turbine on the Biffa site in Withnell was approved for when the waste-recycling facility closes in two year’s time.

Villagers in Eccleston today described the turbines as ‘monstrosities’.

Jim Potts, is on the Friends of Yarrow Valley group and lives in Eccleston, said: “They seem to be springing up all over the place like daisies in some inappropriate locations.”
