Mum Carole said she had been overwhelmed at the amount of support received.

Carole, of Green Lane, Standish, said: “It’s amazing how many people have come round to share memories of Alessandro, he wouldn’t have believed it that he was so popular. But he really did touch so many people’s lives.

“His former school, Orrell St Peter’s, especially, have been fantastic and all of the teachers have been in contact to send their support.

“He had an amazing small circle of best friends as well who he was really close with, everybody has just been devastated by the news.”

Alessandro’s parents are no longer together but Marco has returned from his new home in South Africa. Grandparents Joyce, Stan, Eileen and David have also been left distraught.

Alessandro was just embarking on his second year at Runshaw College in Leyland, studying computing and ICT .

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances around his death. An inquest opened into Alessandro’s death at Bolton on Tuesday and was adjourned pending further inquiries.

The elder twin by just three minutes, Alessandro shared his hopes and dreams with sister Gabriella.

She said: “Alessandro has always been into technology and was amazing at it. He even once built three or four computers from scratch.

“He was also 17 going onto a 35-year-old. He had such a depth and maturity about him.

“His main passion was the dream of travelling the world one day. He used to always talk about wanting to visit places such as Iceland and Sweden and he was just so independent - he always had such big ideas and that’s what I admired about him.”

A spokesman from Runshaw College added: “The news is very sad and unexpected. He was always a lovely, smartly dressed young man who was well-liked and respected by both students and staff here at the college.
