When Adventure Outdoors Ltd partnered with Rock FM’s Cash for Kids charity to set up Buckshaw Green Man 5k, organisers were astounded to have so much interest.Following a post on Facebook, more than 100 people registered ahead of the first run on August 14.Karl Flemming, operations director of Adventure Outdoors Ltd, said: “After I set up Adventure Outdoors, doing personal training, I expanded with a children’s activity group. That grew into a side arm called Active Adventure Outdoors, and I worked in schools and summer fairs.“Working with young people, we wanted to do something to help children and decided to link with Cash For Kids.“We want a run for all ages, so the whole community and businesses can get involved.“We have shared the event on Facebook and it has really taken off, with more than 100 people registered. We can’t believe how well it has gone.“We are not asking anyone to pay anything for the runs, but we have a bucket where people can donate for Cash For Kids, which supports disabled and disadvantaged children.“In addition to this we are also offering 15 local businesses the opportunity to sponsor the event, again to raise much needed funds.”Clare Traynor, of Cash For Kids, said: “Cash for Kids loves any event which brings families together and encourages activity outdoors. “We are thrilled that Active Adventure Outdoors has chosen to adopt Cash for Kids with their fund-raising and running events. “They will be providing a great opportunity for the community of Buckshaw Village and at the same time helping underprivileged children across the whole of Lancashire. It’s definitely something to be excited about for us.” The first run will start at 9.30am on Sunday August 14 and people need to register via http://www.adventureoutdoors.org.uk. Sessions will be every Sunday thereafter, meeting at 9am at Buckshaw Astro Turf, Old Worden Avenue.
