Emergency services were called to Chorley town centre following reports of someone self-harming inside a shop.
The female, who has not been named, is described as suffering from ‘serious bleeding’ when she self-harmed inside the Superdrug store on Market Street.
A staff member said: “She was stood with another customer who asked us to call the police.
“I used the police radio system and they came straight away.
“We didn’t close the shop and we didn’t have to clean up.”
A spokesman for Lancashire Police confirmed: “We were called to Superdrug at around 11am on Friday.
“There was a woman self-harming inside the store.
“She was standing and talking, and an ambulance was en-route.”
A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service added: “The woman suffered serious bleeding and was taken by ambulance to the Chorley and South Ribble District General Hospital.”
