Chorley AC are gearing up for the 25th anniversary of the 'Through the Villages' race being staged on November 2.
The independent road race which has been described in the past as 'eight and a half miles of hell' by runners in the past is celebrating the special birthday.

The event starts and finishes at the Dressers Arms at Wheelton and the course takes in some of the scenic delights of Brinscall, Abbey Village and Withnell.

The race is the brainchild of Terry Dickenson, wife Pat, Jim Smith and Stuart Jackson.

Terry is also the only person to have run 23 out of 24 of the races and only missed one race due to illness.

The course record has stood since 1990 and is an amazing 42.47 by Rich Archer of Manchester University AC.

This years runners will receive special medals sponsored by Heapey Parish Council and Wheelton Parish Council as well as the Village Hall Commitee.

Anyone interested in entering the competition can do so online on www.ukresults.net or by emailing tdickenson@tesco.net
