A TABLE tennis star from Euxton is determined to continue his progress up the rankings by grabbing a spot in the top 100 players in the country.
Parklands High School pupil Alex Tyson has just capped off another successful year in the Preston and District Table Tennis Association.
The 16-year-old has been tipped for a big future in the sport and is one of the youngest players starring in t
he Premier Division of the competition.
Dad Peter Tyson said: "Alex is just outside the top 150 players in England. 2009 was a great year for him because he has beaten a few players who are higher than him in the rankings.
"He has been playing in the top division against some established and experienced players which you would only expect him to win an average of 20 or 30 per cent of matches.
"But he has been doing really well and I think he has a record of 55 per cent.
"While playing for Lancashire U16, he has also picked up a few good scalps notably Yorkshire's number two James Mason who is ranked at 85 in his age group."
His feat is even more amazing considering he only took up the sport two years ago when he started out at 850th in the England rankings.
Tyson is training hard for his next big goal - to retain his title of being Lancashire champion at U16 level in February.
When he does not have the bat in his hand, Tyson is helping NW development officer Katie Parker to train some of the region's top talent.
