Chorley boxer Michael Jennings has set his sights on his confirmed bout for the WBO welterweight title in America on February 21 against Miguel Cotto.
The Chorley Lurcher can finally look forward to the contest after winning an international eight round fight with Jason Rushton in Glasgow on Friday night.

The current WBU champion went the distance with Doncaster's Rushton to win a unanimous points decision and he now has just 13 weeks until the big showdown across the Atlantic.

He said: "It was a useful experience as I was a bit ring rusty and had not boxed for a few months but I was not happy about my performance as I always want perfection.

"I think it was good preparation for Cotto as it was not my best win but I still was in control especially in the last few rounds where my experience came into it."

After months of waiting, Jennings received the confirmation of the fight with Cotto in New Jersey even though the precise venue has not been announced.

He said: "Cotto is one of the best fighters in the world and is great in every department but I will be prepared for him and be in my best shape as I am already fit."

The 30-year-old admits he will go into the fight as an underdog.
