Chorley Cricket Club's new professional Friedel de Wet made a stunning winning debut as the Windsor Park outfit won their first game of the season.
Chorley pro's stunning debut

The South African only arrived in England on Thursday but he made up for lost time with an explosive return of 6-39 off 15 turbo-charged overs against Netherfield on Saturday.

Four of his victims were clean bowled and three were out for ducks as Netherfield's batsmen were bowled out for just 87.

De Wet received good support from youngster Kieron McCullagh, who took 2-18 off 11 overs.

In reply Chorley's batting nearly cost them again as they only just won by one wicket.

They took 55.3 overs to reach 88-9 but despite the snail-like run chase there was no shortage of excitement as Chorley were indebted to two old hands before victory was secured.

Ian Mawdesley hit a crucial 21 while veteran Rex Purnell hit an unbeaten 22 to see his side home with the last pair at the crease.

Chorley are due to play Wavertree in the National Knockout on Sunday and Morecambe in the Northern League on Bank Holiday Monday.
