Chris calls for support
Eccleston boxer Chris Johnson is calling on people from Chorley and Leyland to come and help him to a winning end to his season.
The 20-year-old boxer takes to the ring on May 23 at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan and is the undercard on Michael Gomez's Irish title fight against Peter McDonagh.
He said: "This is my last fight this season and I am really looking forward to it as I had to pull out of my last fight at the start of April as I perforated my ear drum.
"I had been sparring at Michael Jennings gym with Matthew Hall when I got injured and you can't fight for a while as it is so sore.
"It meant that I have not had a competitive fight since February and I really want to get into the ring again. I want as many people as I can get to come along and cheer me on."
Chris admits he is fitter than ever for the contest and is determined to put on a show for his supporters.
He said: "My training has been going brilliantly and I have two weeks now of intense build-up before I have a week off before the fight.
"I learnt a lot from my last fight at Blackpool against Dave Murray as he was a lad with similar ability but I managed to stop him in the fourth round."
Chris has arranged a break during the summer before he steps up his training again.
He said: "I have been talking to my management and they feel I should be moving up the ladder. This will be my 10th competitive fight and I should be ready to move up the British boxing rankings when I restart my season on September."
Anyone interested in buying tickets for the fight should contact Chris on 07740722475.
