Highfield Golf Course in Chorley held its annual invitational competition earlier this month.
More than 40 competitors were looking to win the Dave Brown Trophy, which is played in memory of the late course regular from Chorley.

Played over 18 holes at the popular nine hole course in Higher Wheelton, the golfers had to wear their waterproofs as the conditions were more like March than July.

The weather didn't dampen too many spirits though, in what is becoming a very popular event, and the sun even managed to make an appearance for the back nine.

The overall winner was Len Carter, who amassed a total of 37 stableford points.

The runner-up spot was decided by a play-off, with Tim Coe coming out on top with a par on the extra hole nine.

This was his second bit of silverware having already won 'nearest the pin'. The other winner was Nev Nelson, who was rewarded for his 'longest drive' on the par four sixth.

Course owner Richard Whalley said: "Even though the weather wasn't very pleasant for the first couple of hours, everyone enjoyed the day, and the atmosphere between all the golfers was superb.

"The course was in excellent condition, and the rain probably helped the golfers out on what are usually quick greens."

For more information about the course call the club shop on 01254 830389.
