Shaw Hill favourite Nick Dougherty pushed himself into Ryder Cup reckoning after an impressive second placed finish at the SAS Masters in Stockholm.
Dougherty, who had been nursing an injured back going into the final round of play, was narrowly pipped into second place by one shot by local star Peter Hanson.

It was Dougherty'' second consecutive runner-up finish at the Scandinavian Open but it marked a reversal of his poor form in recent months.

The 26-year-old grabbed almost £104,000 in prize money and is in 14th place in the Ryder Cup race.

However he will be hoping to take the good form from the Swedish event into his last two tournaments as he bids for the top 10 finish in the European Ryder Cup standings that will guarantee a place in Nick Faldo's team.

Despite nursing a back injury on the eve of the final day Dougherty produced a final round of 70 for an eight under par total.

The Chorley star very nearly didn't finish the tournament after injuring his back during the night.

"What a day," he said. "If my chiropractor had been here he might have told me to pull out, so I'm glad he wasn't. After all I've been through I was going to finish no matter what."
