Friendship went out of the window on Saturday when pals Jamie Ellis and Josh Carnley went head-to-head in the Academy play-off final at St Helens rugby stadium.
It has been a fairytale year for Wigan Academy winger Charnley, who has just earned a one-year contract with the U18 Academy side, and he said St Helens scrum-half Jamie was the inspiration for him to play rugby.

Josh, 18, said: "Jamie used to live on the next street to me and he asked me to take up the sport when he was at Chorley Panthers.

"He was always in the year above me so he left to play for St Helens. I was a bit jealous of him but despite being best friends when we get on to the pitch it's different."
