Lancashire FA Trophy

Chorley 1
Skelmersdale United 3

There is to be no repeat of last season's heroics of reaching final of the Lancashire FA Trophy for Chorley as they lost their second game in four days to a 3-1 scoreline at home.

The visitors arrived at Victory Park determined to avenge the 4-1 d
efeat earlier this year in the league but fell behind in the 12th minute when defender Chris Smalley scored from a corner.

Winger Roger Sharrock showed glimpses of his flair and almost helped the Magpies double their lead when he beat two players and beared down on goal.

But his shot blocked when squaring it to Jordan Connerton or Adam Crossley may have been the better option.

Sharrock turned provider for the next chance as he won the ball in midfield and then set up Crossley who was shepherded wide of the goal and the chance had gone.

Skelmersdale drew level when George Donnelly timed his run into the box to perfection to slot home past Peter Collinge on 39 minutes.

Donnelly was at again two minutes later when he shrugged off two defenders and rounded Collinge for his second of the game.

In the second period Gavin Lee Ellison almost grabbed an equaliser when his low long range shot forced a good save from Skelmersdale keeper Ryan McMahon.

The game was effectively killed off as a contest when Sean McConville hit a 20 yard strike found its way into the back of the net on 69 minutes.

Chorley: Collinge, Smalley, Henry, Mullineux, Fletcher, Walsh, Parillon (Eckersley 63), Lee Ellison, Connerton, Crossley (Burke 56), Sharrock (Goodeve 46). Subs not used: Nolan, Percival
