Four months ago Friedel de Wet strolled on the flooded Windsor Park soil for the first time – and Chorley Cricket Club's popular professional has been walking on water ever since.
Before the 28-year-old South African arrived, Jack Catterall's team had lost their opening two Northern League game of the seasons and been linked with a succession of professionals.

A few days after arriving at a rain-sodden Chorley, de Wet was taking 6-39 against Netherfield - including the league's top scorer Callum Ferguson for just five - and the club was on the way back up.

He's taken more than 50 Northern League wickets this season and returns to South Africa after Saturday's trip to Barrow having been recognised as one of the best pros Chorley has had for many a year.

He told the Guardian: "I have really enjoyed my time over here and I will look back on my time there with some good memories."
