Astley Village footballer Tom Cahill is hoping his move to UniBond Premier League side Ilkeston Town on a three-month loan deal from Rotherham United will help to put him in the shop window.
Former Runshaw College pupil Cahill has been left frustrated by the lack of first team opportunities with the Millers this season and was eager for a move.

The 22-year-old made his debut for the fifth-placed Premier League side two weeks ago, following a mix-up in the paperwork against Bradford Park Avenue.

It has been going well for the forward and he opened his account for his new club in the FA Trophy against Ashton United with a 20-yard strike in the 48th minute last weekend which he hopes will be the first of many during the loan spell.

He said: "It is nice to be out playing some regular first team football instead of sitting in the stands on a Saturday.

"Ilkeston is a great club flying high in the league and the manager is David Holdsworth who has experience of playing at the top level.

"They are definitely an up-and-coming team which suits me fine.

"I don't know why I have fallen out of favour at the club. I could understand not being picked if I had a big fall-out with the boss, but I have not and I even got a run in the team last season."

Last season, the striker was in a similar situation when he secured a deal in January to join Altrincham and this time several clubs expressed an interest in him.

He said: "There were league two, Conference and Conference North teams in for me but the gaffer told me I had to join Ilkeston. I have not played any first team football since pre-season so it is about getting my rhythm and confidence back."
