Adlington Rangers 24
Folly Lane 18
Adlington Rangers had a great battle with Folly Lane, on Saturday, with the result in doubt until the last few minutes.
Both teams had a good defence, but Rangers were first to break through with a kick ahead by scrum-half Paul Dootson, which went over the try line for winger Frank Rogers to touch down.
Richard Wareing struck a fine kick from the touchline through the sticks for the extras.
Folly took to the attack, but Rangers' defence was spot-on with full-bak Gareth McCloughlin pulling off some good tackles and running the ball out.
Rangers' forwards were also running the ball in hard with Tony Fitzgerald making good inroads into Folly's line and the Adlington man even had a try disallowed for double movement.
The other forwards also did well with good tackling from Paul Cookson and Lee Murray.
In the second half, Folly came out and threw everything they had at Rangers, who finally cracked and allowed the visitors to level the scores.
Rangers hit back when Dootson kicked ahead, regathered and slipped a one handed pass to winger Simon Hurst just before being hit by a tackle.
Hurst raced to the line for the try and Wareing added the kick.
Rangers piled on the pressure and with some good passing created another chance. Wareing dummied his way through to score under the posts and added the goal for a 12 point lead.
Folly were not going to give up easily and clawed back a try and goal to reduce the arrears.
Michael Prescott, who came on as a sub for Rangers, added his name to the scoresheet with a great run finished nicely behind the posts. Wareing added the goal.
Folly struck back again with a quick try
and a goal.
Rangers survived two penalties before Fitzgerald pulled off a great tackle as Folly were going in for a try.
Two tackles later and the game was over with Rangers taking a much deserved win.
