Tributes have been paid to a former cricket player and administrator who was described as 'Mr Chorley'.
Doug Rossall, aged 75, from Withnell, died last Thursday after a short illness.

Mr Rossall was a former player, chairman and president at the Windsor Park club and continued to make a signifiant contribution at Chorley.

He was diagnosed with cancer on October 17 this year, the day before he celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife Pat.

The couple had three children – Duncan, Ian and Yvonne - and five grand-children.

His funeral took place on Tuesday at St Paul's Church in Withnell.

Former team-mate Frank Henry had been his friend for more than 50 years.

He said: "His playing career started at Withnell Fold but as a boy at Chorley Grammar School he was soon persuaded, like so many others, by his English master and Chorley CC captain, Jack Lancaster, that the club could use his fast bowling talents.

"Doug came with a cricketing pedigree. His brother John captained Chorley for 10 years and their father Jack was a very good Northern League umpire. There was a time for several years when both Doug and John jointly held the club record for the most amateur wickets taken in a season.

"Doug was an all round sportsman. As well as cricket he played a hard game of football for Brinscall in 50s and 60s in a very good side. He also loved to play golf and was a member of Chorley Golf Club. "
