Buccaneers kitted out for success
One of the country's longest-running American football teams is getting kitted up for the new season.
Coaches and players at Chorley Buccaneers are preparing for their seventh season in action and are on the look out for promising talent to join their ranks.
The team has travelled around the country to various tournaments and has seen great success in the past as one of their girls, Rachel Hull, represented Great Britain at cadet level in 2005.
In addition, Buccaneers Dominic Goss and Phil Hooper were recently part of the Great Britain squad.
The junior team managed to secure several wins last season and recently won the 'Most Valuable Team' award at some tournaments.
Even though the fixture list is yet to be confirmed, one of the upcoming games is against Woodham Warriors near Newton Ayrcliffe, Durham.
Assistant coach Lee Taylor said: "We are wanting to encourage young people to come and take up a new sport. A lot of people are not aware that there is an American football side on their doorstep.
"The three groups of young people that turn out on Saturday deserve some recognition of the hard work they put in."
"But if you fancy taking up the sport after watching the Super Bowl and don't want the rough and tumble the Buccaneers could help.
"We have got a new flagged side for people who just want to keep fit and the tackles are made by pulling the flags. It still has the same pace to it and both boys and girls can take part.
"With such a group of young players coming throughout the club we do not lose them as they get picked up by the Lancashire Wolverines who are a senior side who play in Blackburn."
The Buccaneers have three sides that play for them – the fully kitted, cadet and youth sides.
The fully kitted side is for youngsters aged between 14 and 17 whereas 14-to-18-year-olds are part of the youth flag side.
For those between the ages of seven and 11 there is a cadet team and Junior flag team for 11-15 year-olds can also get involved.
