Charnock Richard 4

A brace of goals by veteran Andy Roberts, and one apiece from Carl Grimshaw and David Burrows, helped Charnock to victory over 10-man Thornton Cleveleys.

Charnock Richard had a chaotic start to the game and struggled to deal with the attacking moves of the visitors.

The hosts made a few changes and it paid off on 21 minutes, when Chris Robinson’s free-kick into the box found Roberts at the back post and he blasted the ball home.

Just before the break, the visitors equalised after failing to clear a shot that rebounded off the post.

Charnock piled on the pressure in the second half, and restored their lead on 51 minutes, when Carl Grimshaw beat the keeper one-on-one.

Striker David Burrows gave Charnock a two-goal advantage when he made no mistake on another one-on-one situation on the hour mark.

Roberts made his 4-1 by heading home at the back post.

However, Thornton Cleveleys had the final say in added time when they scored from the penalty spot.
